Welcome Kruger Tournament Patrons,
For the past several years I’ve always looked forward to getting the event rolling with this letter announcing the success of the previous tournament and talking about changes for the upcoming tournament. Unfortunately this year’s letter has become a very difficult undertaking that conveys a decision that was not made easily or without a heavy heart.
Despite the hard work of many, another wonderful weather day, and generosity of all, the 2009 event struggled to cover the tournament expenses. With today’s economy continuing to struggle affecting players and sponsors alike, I’ve made the decision to suspend the 2010 tournament. The decision to suspend this year’s event allows us to better control our financial exposure while ensuring the memorial’s long term success and continuing to make a positive impact for years to come.
Although this year’s tournament has been suspended, we’re committed to making a positive impact on our past and future scholarship recipients. We will once again be offering a limited number of upper division ($2500) and lower division ($1000) scholarships to Cirrus employees and their immediate family for the 2010/2011 school year. The funds to cover these scholarships will be extracted from the memorial’s investment fund which was generated from the proceeds from the earlier events and has been managed with fiscal prudence to ensure the memorial can ride through challenging times.
Again I would like to reiterate that even though the golf tournament has been suspended for 2010, the Walt Kruger Memorial efforts are not ceasing for the year. For that reason we will still be accepting donations from patrons who are interested in continuing to support the foundation. On behalf of the tournament staff and the scholarship recipients, I would again like to thank all the tournament patrons for their generosity and I hope to see you all back next year where once again can enjoy a wonderful day of golf in Walt’s honor.
